Method Detail

isReachable

public static boolean isReachable(String ip,
                                  int timeout)

Check if an IP is reachable. This method is blocking.

Watch out this method is ICMP based. It may not work if you have firewalls. Check the variant using a host port on an expected remote TCP server.

Parameters:

ip - the host name or dotted ip address to check for

timeout - the timeout in milliseconds

Returns:

true or false

isReachable

public static boolean isReachable(String ip,
                                  int port,
                                  int timeout)

Connect using layer4 (sockets). This check if a TCP connect can be performed in the given timeout.

If the connection is successful, it is closed. That means the remote server will experience an empty connection, make sure that is ok.

Parameters:

ip - the host name or dotted ip address to check for

port - the destination port

timeout - the timeout in milliseconds

Returns:

true or false

isAvailable

Check if a service is available through socket layer

Parameters:

host - host name or address

port - port number

true if the service can be connected with
